In addition to longer sunny days, a second sun recently appeared in the lab. No, we did not move to Tatooine (yet); these microbial rays were photograph by Lea who is doing S. aureus / B. subtilis biofilms for her graduate project. This superb picture is a finalist of the competition « La preuve par l’image » organized by ACFAS! You can vote for this beautiful image right here ( #11 ):

In other news, spring brought lots and lots of pollen and student fellowships. Léa Museau and Jean-Sébastien Bourassa both obtain excellency PhD fellowships from the Université de Sherbrooke (respectively VoiceAge and Hydro-Québec fellowships). An excellent result, considering that a total of 9 PhD fellowship were given to applicants from all discipline of the Université! Vincent also got great news, he was awarded a prestigious FRQ-NT PhD fellowship.
Many meetings are coming in the next weeks, and several virtual presentations were given by members of the lab. Léa, JS, David et Julie gave talks on their respective graduate project as « communications libres » of the ACFAS meeting, and Vincent presented his latest results in meeting about plant-microbial interactions, which was organized by Isabelle Laforest-Lapointe, Peter Moffett and me. Vincent took the opportunity to display (again) his talent as an oral presenter, since he won the price for the best student presentation, offered by the centre SÈVE.
